Obituary

Walter Milburn Fortenberry Jr., 64, went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2021, after battling Covid-19. He was surrounded by his wife, two children, and his brother in Kingwood, Texas.

Walt was born on July 14, 1956, in Newton, Texas to Walter and Mary Elizabeth Fortenberry. He graduated from Newton High School and East Texas Baptist University. After college, Walt continued his education at South Texas School of Law and had a successful career as a personal injury attorney.

Walt leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Jeri Fortenberry; two children, Cherish Reilly and Christopher Fortenberry (wife Erin Fortenberry); seven grandchildren, Kaegan, Kiera, William, David, Anastasia, Ashlin, and Avalon; his parents, Walter Milburn Fortenberry Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Fortenberry; brother John P. Fortenberry (wife Sybil Fortenberry); nephews Bill and Jason Fortenberry, niece Ali Fortenberry Stewart, aunt Bessie Fortenberry and many other close family and friends who loved him.

Walt spent his time enjoying special moments with his family, volunteering his time coaching, playing tennis, working outdoors on his land, and of course a good nap! He was always quick to help others, and he noticed the people who needed a friend. His smile and dry humor brought joy to those around him, and his gentle attitude was evident to all. Walt loved sports and was an amazing athlete and coach, and he loved sharing his passion with his kids, grandkids, and countless others. He was a follower of Jesus, faithful husband, loving father, goofy papa, devoted son, and an authentic friend.  Thank you, Walt, for loving so well!

For those who would like to give a memorial gift, Walt liked the Star of Hope Mission in Houston, Texas.

Two memorial services will be held:

First Baptist Church of Newton on March 6, 2021 at 2:00 pm

Second Baptist Church, North Campus, Kingwood on March 13, 2021 at 10:00 am
