William Gary Roberts, AKA "Wonder", of League City , Texas , Passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. He was born September 27, 1954 in Stigler, Oklahoma. Gary will be remembered by his many friends and family members for his hard work, amazing talent for building most anything and his desire for perfection, as well as his gift of telling jokes and storytelling. He was truly one of a kind and always a daredevil at heart, thus earning the much deserved nickname "Wonder".
Gary graduated from Pasadena High School in 1972 and attended San Jacinto College. Following in his father's footsteps, he soon became a member of Pipefitters Local 211 in Houston, Texas, completing the pipefitters apprenticeship program. Shortly thereafter, he spent time in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska working on the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline at Pump Station 1, later returning to Texas to continue his career, working in the pipefitting industry in various capacities.
He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Jeannie Lee Roberts; his daughter Alex Mitchell of Cypress, Texas; sisters, Maxine Shum of Harlingen, Texas and Denise Cade (Robert) of Arroyo City, Texas; brother, Richard Roberts (Ira) of Harlingen, Texas; stepdaughters, Alice Matthews of Houston, Texas , Rene Talley (Clint) of Splendora, Texas and; stepson, Lee Matthews of League City, Texas; 8 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and Bella his cat.
Gary was preceded in death by his devoted mother, Yolondia Faye Roberts, his father, Mack C. Roberts, and his sister, Joyce Geraldean "Gerry" Conway and his beloved pets, Chopper and Precious.
Honoring his wishes, Gary will be cremated and due to the Corona virus pandemic, there will be a memorial service announced at a later date.
